Neapolitan Music Society and the Neapolitan Symphony Orchestra present

"Neapolitan Masters: Foundation of the European Tradition"

The event featured the Neapolitan Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Naples-trained conductor M° Gioacchino Longobardi, performing premiere works of Durante, Leo, Scarlatti, Fiorenza and Hasse. Transcription and elaboration of all works by M° Gioacchino Longobardi and Alberto Vitolo. This event was also the New York debut of contralto Tiziana Pizzi from Italy.

The evening began with a presentation by Professor Robert Gjerdingen, Northwestern University music historian and recent author of Music in the Galant Style (Oxford University Press, 2007), who discussed the significant contributions of the 18th Century Neapolitan School of Music. Immediately following, the Neapolitan Chamber Ensemble performed works by Durante, Pergolesi, and world premieres of Orgitano and Leo.
